Bryan McGann is the Executive Director for Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network North Carolina. He is a successful entrepreneur and attorney who brings more than 30 years of experience to this new role. Bryan is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at UNC Chapel Hill, a Senior Lecturing Fellow at Duke University, a member of the founding team of the Carolina Angel Network, and is of counsel to the Smith Anderson firm.

Bryan is the inventor and founder of the Pill Pockets® brand pet treats, the world’s leading medicine delivery aid for animals. His company was acquired by Mars, Incorporated and the Pill Pockets® brand is now sold across the United States and around the world under various Mars brands. He also co-owns Sundial Homes, a general contracting firm building residential and resort properties at Lake Gaston, and he has recently been granted a U.S. patent on a medical brace to aid in the rehabilitation and recovery of orthopedic surgical patients.

Bryan is a graduate of both the Duke University (LLM) and UNC (JD) Schools of Law and also holds PhD, MBA and BS degrees. He is active in the community coaching four youth sports teams, and holding leadership positions with his church and the annual fund of Cardinal Gibbons High School where he is a member of both the Alumni and Athletic Halls of Fame.

Kathryn James is the Program Manager for Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network North Carolina, bringing more than 25 years of software development, client service, sales and start-up executive management experience.

Kathryn started her entrepreneurial life working in software development and implementation for international clients at Accenture, followed by business infrastructure and merger integration consulting serving gazelle clients of Ernst & Young in San Jose.  She has held founding roles and senior management roles in high tech startups in the Triangle and in Silicon Valley, where she ran an organization for Andreesen-Horowitz startup Loudcloud (Opsware).  After relocating to the Triangle and receiving a Masters of Landscape Architecture degree from the NC State University School of Design in 2007, Kathryn began utilizing design thinking as the founder of Green Earth Strategies and Designs in Chapel Hill where her first customer was Cherokee Investment Partners.  Prior to joining BEN, Kathryn was the Director of Entrepreneurship at CED where she built the original Venture Mentoring Service based on the MIT model, and grew the Cleantech Industry collaboration among startups, corporations and investors, and served as an Advisor in the Cherokee-McDonough Challenge.

Kathryn has a BS in Computer Science from Western Michigan University and an MLA from North Carolina State University.  She brings great experience and community contacts to our Network.

As the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network expands into other regions, Sheryl Waddell has taken on the role of Replication Program Manager.

Formally, Sheryl was the Program Manager of the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network in the RTP region and has over 20 years of experience working with education, business and government leaders to create and implement successful programs.

Before joining the team, Sheryl was Executive Manager of Strategy and Contracts for Intergraph, the leading global provider of engineering and geospatial software, where she lead the Pre-Sales Operations team focusing on opportunity capture analysis, proposal development and contract execution.

Sheryl began her career as an entrepreneur, co-founding a wireless data communication company, Padcom, Inc.   She held numerous leadership roles at Padcom including Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Director of Business Development where she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the sales and marketing framework leading to the company’s success and eventual merger with a leading data communication company, NetMotion. Sheryl holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Virginia Wesleyan College.
